• September 12 – Annual TC Steele Great Outdoor Art Contest

32nd Great Outdoor Art Contest this year, but it will be adjusted for Covid-19. Instead of a high impact single day, we will be offering a low impact 3 day event, and will  be offering artists check-in appointments (10 per day), along with 10 walk up check-ins (10 max per day), beginning Wed. Sept. 9, and again on Thurs. Sept. 10, and on the last day, Fri. Sept. 11. Instead of selecting a medium to compete in, artists will select an appointment time for check-in over the 3 available days. We will limit each day to 10 appointments plus 10 walkups, to accommodate as many artists as we usually see during PaintOut day. Artists who wish to compete will register for the PaintOut and check-in at an outdoor table between 9-9:30am on the day they registered for. They will get their stickers, TR, and canvases and papers stamped by staff, and will be able to paint anywhere on the site or in Brown County until 4pm on the day of stamp. At 4pm, artists will submit one unsigned, unframed, stamped piece with their number sticker visible and attached, to the site’s Large Studio and set it up on an easel or display apparatus, to leave until judging occurs on Sept. 12. They will fill out their TR (temporary receipt) form and affix it to the back of the piece for insurance purposes.

On
Sat. Sept. 12, at 2pm the artwork in the Studio will be judged in a
Facebook Live event by the Indiana State Museum Fine Arts Curator, Mark
Ruschman. He will
award three ribbons for 1st (Best in Show), 2nd, and 3rd,
regardless of medium. Unlike in previous years when we offered 3
ribbons in each category, this year we will offer 3 total. The three
winners will go on to the Brown
County Art Guild that afternoon, to be on display there until Sept. 30.
All other artworks can remain on display in the Large Studio through
Sept. 20th, when artists or their representatives will need to come collect them.

• September25-27 – First Brush of Fall, Michigan City

Dunes Arts Foundation (DAF) and Dunes Summer Theatre announces its bi-annual FIRST BRUSH OF FALL, 2020, held in Michigan City, Indiana. The event is Friday/Saturday and Sunday, September 25, 26, 27 and is sanctioned by Indiana Plein Air Painters Association (IPAPA) and the Converse Paint Out, bi-annual partner in FIRST BRUSH OF FALL.

For registration, please visit www.DunesArtsFoundation.org. Cost of registration during this COVID year is $25 (down from the regular $40); those who have reserved a cabin on the theater campus will pay $25 cleaning fee for each participant in the cabin at time of registration (linens and towels are provided). Regrettably, each of the eight one-room “sleeping cabins” are committed at this time.

Artists will paint Friday and Saturday, as well as Sunday morning. Paintings are due by 1pm on Sunday; Public Art Sale & Competition from 2-4pm. There will be a Quick Paint event downtown (Michigan City) including the Farmer’s Market, Saturday at 10am to noon; Quick-Paint Awards and Art Sale from 12:30-2pm.

Dunes Arts Foundation is committed to hosting a safe event and will take all precautions to protect artists and public alike. Required social distancing and mandatory mask-wearing in all public spaces or in the event social distancing is not possible. Corporate partners sponsoring the event include Sullair, NIPSCO, and Horizon Bank. Over $2,500 in cash prizes.

• October 16-18 – Brookville Paint-out and Sale

This year we will not have a speaker on Friday night or a dinner on Saturday. We will have the sale on Sunday, with a box lunch provided by the Richmond art Museum. If you are planning to attend and would like to have a box lunch please call Susan at the Franklin County Library to register at 513-763-0889. You can leave a message.

We will not be meeting Saturday at the Yacht Club for Pizza – We will meet Saturday at 7:00 pm for Pizza and Sunday for the art sale from 1pm to 3pm at the South Shore Golf Club Pavilion, 10601 North State Road 13 .
