Info for Artists

Inviting all artists to paint Nashville and sell their work.

If you participated last year, you know we had a great time and sold 35 paintings. In order to improve sales we have made a few changes.

  1. Attract More Tourists: We are encouraging you to actually Paint Nashville. This will attract tourists to the Gallery over the weekend and hopefully sell more work.
You are free to paint anywhere in the county, but at least one painting has to depict Nashville, and we encourage the county paintings to be recognizable landmarks…
Bean Blossom Covered Bridge for example. You will be given flyers to hand out inviting folks to the Gallery to buy paintings on Saturday and for the Barbeque and sale on Sunday.
  2. Fresh Work only. No previous work allowed. All work sold on Gallery Foundation space will be charged a 15% commission that will go to the non-profit foundation,
so price accordingly. The Foundation will handle the sales and collect sales tax, however you are free to conduct your own sales off Gallery property.
Association members are exempt from the 15% commission but exempt work must be offered in Association space which consists of the Grand Hall.

  • Foundation space firstcome basis:  Sales start on Saturday and Sunday at regular hours with set up starting at 9 am on Saturday and 11am on Sunday.
The paintings will be offered for sale on a continuous basis, so drop off your work and then go back out and paint some more!
Again the 15% commission applies to
all artists for work sold on Foundation Space.(Foundation space consists of north and south gallery, Henshaw gallery,
front lobby, and Klein Gallery as well as parking lot and grounds. We will set up some tents)We will limit the number of paintings on display to three per artist
but will be flexible when we see what space will allow.

  • Barbeque and Sale: Doors open on Sunday at noon and there will be a $5.00 admission fee at the door for everyone. We are still working on setting up a wine tasting and music.
  • Register: Please give the Gallery a call (812-988-4609) or send us an email ( and let us know that you intend to participate.
There is no fee, no judges, just a great opportunity to paint and sell (and have fun!)

  • Tell your friends and patrons: We will be promoting this event on the website, with post cards, and on Facebook. Please visit our Facebook page
“the historic brown county art gallery” and like and share our info. We will also be posting and emailing flyers that you can download and post
with the various art groups where you participate. Help us grow this into a big annual event!

June 28

Will Vawter Plein Air

There will be no pre-registration but instead artists will be encouraged to call in their location so that people can go and watch them paint.
Artists are encouraged to come and enjoy a fun day of painting ending at 3:00 p.m.
(Since there will be no monetary award for the plein air
we are trusting the artists and not asking that they come in and get their canvasses stamped).
Artwork should be in the vicinity of Hancock County surrounding Greenfield.
At 3:00 p.m. artwork should be brought to the Creative Arts and Events Center for display and sale.
Artists are then invited to a cook-out at the home of local artist Steve Smith.
